Void Question #12 and Weekly Battles!

Thu Jun 18, 2009, 10:53 PM by =luniara:iconluniara:
Angie here, I'm sure you guys were devastated I took a week off. Well, last week was pretty busy and I totally forgot to do it so I figured I'd just let it go a week. So anyways...

Void News

The Serious Business Tournament is in the final round, with Jared Lewis and Phillip Chanter as the finalists. Be sure to give those guys your support! I know I'm looking forward to seeing the last chapters of these entries.

We're currently discussing the next possible tournament, it's going to be another brand new one so keep an eye out for it! And as usual, many new features are being worked on and will be revealed in time.

And for those of you that enjoy doing jams, [link] I recently opened a Coloring School in the jams section. So feel free to post your colored art for critique and give others advice and tips. Since it's summer I hope to see the jams get a little busier, you're more than welcome to start your own jams as long as you have art in the first post.

Void Art Showcase
If you would like to showcase some Void related art, please note it to this account and I'll display it here. Please only 1 image at a time, you can send me a new one after your last one has been showcased. I will put images up in the order they have been received.

None this week, slackers! The art doesn't have to be brand new just so you know.

Now for this week's question

Do you prefer to take on longer deadlines or shorter ones? Please explain why.

Random Battles of the Week

This week's theme is first battles, let's see how some of the current active fighters lost their battle virginity.

Thia vs. J-pop [link]
Phill vs. Mr.Kick [link]
Drednaught vs. Shredd [link]

and wow, is it just me or is it just that a lot of first battles result in their opponents defaulting? The same thing happened on my first battle too! Lets keep this kind of thing from happening!

And that's it for now! Please direct any questions or comments related to the DA to :iconangieness::iconkotori-ky:

ENTERVOID [link]

Launched in 2002, EnterVOID offers artists a place to hone their artistic skills in a competitive and cooperative environment. Once artists create an original character, they are able to challenge any other artists on the site to a comic battle. Upon completion, a community of artists gives helpful critiques and advice on how to improve each artist’s craft even further. With hundreds of unique characters and thousands of artists, EnterVOID is a haven for those seeking to improve their comic creation skills.

Alumni of EnterVOID feature the talented Sheldon ("Supertron") Vella, Kenneth ("Madame Mirage") Rocafort, Eisner-nominated James ("Wonton Soup") Stokoe, and many others with published works.

EnterVOID.com features thousands of comics from a globally diverse set of artists, covering nearly every genre of storytelling and artistic style. We recently re-launched with a brand-new design and features to bring increased levels of interactivity for comic artists.

The deadline normally just depends on how much time I have. If it's the summer, normally I'll try to get a bunch of two weekers in. During school I mainly stick to four or three weekers.
:iconaribooboo:
I go for longer ones. For one, it takes me like...2-4 days to finish a page during school. Second, I get stressed out easily haha But i guess it depends on how many pages I plan it to be...

Both long and short deadlines often leave me overplanning and not finishing. :(

Whenever I can battle I try to make it a one weeker.. I've found that the best formula ever since I battled jinguj in a limited battle we set, that had to be made whithin a week, and restricted 6 pages. The other times after that battle that were longer than one week we generally either asked by my opponents or set by an event, like the royale.

The one weekers are specially great to keep the steam to draw pretty high, which is the biggest attractive, making you able to draw perhaps more pages than you would proportionately be in bigger drawing times, and possibly greater quality too, though thats one variable.

The downside is that quality can also be critically damaged depending on the person, and sometimes you wont be able to tell a bigger story without rushing the pace due to time constraints... besides I don't think you can do it in a nice way if youre swamped with outside work.
:iconangieness:
I prefer longer because I work full time and go to college and really want to make a quality comic.

Since I'm starting out I want to try long deadlines because, not only do I want to make the best comic I can, I'm also testing the waters and seeing how I operate under said timeline and how much I can do. As time goes on I hope to be able to partcipate in one weekers and such and still be able to produce a quality comic (if I can do it with a long deadline anyways).
:iconairiight:
short deadline. 1 week and no more. prevents me from overthinking due to the urgency of it. I never finished a single comic that was legitimately 2 weeks and longer with the exception of my fight against Jack, which took over a month.

Of course i haven't had a 1 weeker in ages, I forget how that feels.. it has to happen again sometime.

I was so determined not to default on my first battle, but it very nearly happened! I never want to cut it so close again - I think my 2nd battle will be a 1 weeker
