Now for this week's question

Do you think that everyone should be able to set up scar matches the normal way again? To those not in the know, at the moment scar matches can only be set up through the mods. Please explain why it would or wouldn't be a good idea.

Random Battles of the Week

ENTERVOID [link]

Launched in 2002, EnterVOID offers artists a place to hone their artistic skills in a competitive and cooperative environment. Once artists create an original character, they are able to challenge any other artists on the site to a comic battle. Upon completion, a community of artists gives helpful critiques and advice on how to improve each artist’s craft even further. With hundreds of unique characters and thousands of artists, EnterVOID is a haven for those seeking to improve their comic creation skills.

Alumni of EnterVOID feature the talented Sheldon ("Supertron") Vella, Kenneth ("Madame Mirage") Rocafort, Eisner-nominated James ("Wonton Soup") Stokoe, and many others with published works.

EnterVOID.com features thousands of comics from a globally diverse set of artists, covering nearly every genre of storytelling and artistic style. We recently re-launched with a brand-new design and features to bring increased levels of interactivity for comic artists.

I think Void is grown up enough to handle scar matches set up by the artists. If anything, all they need is something added to the FAQ telling the artists that if they don't agree to the scar beforehand, it's their own fault.

Artists have rarely ever been the ones to complain, though. It's almost always someone not involved with the battle or character in any way... so something else could be added about them minding their own bees wax. :3

well another thing is people should be smart enough to look at who they are scar matching and what the other person's character can do.

even if they don't agree on the aftermath beforehand, that's part of the idea when it comes to a scar match, i would think. you're banking on your skills & taking a gamble. if you come up short, your character's at your opponent's mercy. if your opponent's a particularly twisted individual? then there's reason to worry, but even then? no one forced you into the match, you know? it takes two to scar match.

so i think YES!! scar matches should be put back in the fold, so long as those participating take those factors into account. but seriously, if you're that attached to a character & think they're precious & special, don't scar match. it's that simple.

well if they haven't agreed on the aftermath beforehand they have automatically given up the right to bitch about not liking a scar and it's their own fault if their character gets turned into a gorilla.

No guts no glory. I think of a scar match as a viable option to death matches; taking a risk, branching out on your skills (pooooosibly against a tough opponent) without losing a cherished character. And like hux said two to tango and if you take it upon yourself to use a scar match to settle a vendetta and lose...well you got what you asked for. Kinda like the old school duels. Plus the mods shouldn't have to babysit us on that kinda level.

I agree with all the above, it should be up to the artists. However, given that some scars that occur can be pretty crazy, like being turned into a gorilla, there probably should be some "on-the-record" way for the artists to legitimately restore some degree of their character's dignity again through battles. Maybe through a series of BB's or co-ops or something? Certainly not a "one battle and I fix dis problem" sorta deal though, in those extreme cases.

I think back to how well Kura played off the pornstar thing. That took some dedication!
