Void Question #9 and Weekly Battles

Fri May 22, 2009, 8:58 AM by =luniara:iconluniara:
It's that time of week again. Angie is here before she has to run into work and make coffee for the world. Got a bigger update this week, I know you guys are on the edge of your seats and all.

Void News

Ever since 4.0, many have complained about the new lightbox viewer, myself included. Toast created a classic viewer for those of us who don't like the lightbox which was great. But even better, Toast has just introduced the option to set your default viewer. You can find it by going to your manager and clicking on "Update My Profile". There you can choose if you want to use the lightbox or classic viewers by default.

And with the increased interest in gangs and gang activity, new tools are in the works for gangs! The first step can be found [link] and [link] for Girl Power and Bad Star. More is on the way and I'm sure an official announcement will be made on the forums when all is revealed so keep an eye out for it!

Void Art Showcase
If you would like to showcase some Void related art, please note it to this account and I'll display it here. Please only 1 image at a time, you can send me a new one after your last one has been showcased. I will put images up in the order they have been received.

none this week, slackers!

Now for this week's question

What do you think of the Awards system? Are there any awards you would like to see introduced? Do they encourage you to be more active in the community?

Random Battles of the Week
Spotlight on the Girl Power gang this week! A comic from each of the Girl Power members. Next up is Bad Star if I remember.

Satin vs. Eliza Quaille [link]
Suit vs. Tammy and Sammy [link]
Mortido vs. Katka Katarina [link]
Dr.Fabulous vs. Nova [link] (NSFW!)
Danielle vs. Arnold Benedict [link]
Dolly vs. Milly [link]

I will only be featuring gangs that are currently active and each member has at least 3 comics since there's a lot of new gangs with new members that have very recent comics and I'm trying to focus a little on comics that are a few months old at the very least.

And that's it for now! Please direct any questions or comments related to the DA to :iconangieness::iconkotori-ky:

ENTERVOID [link]

Launched in 2002, EnterVOID offers artists a place to hone their artistic skills in a competitive and cooperative environment. Once artists create an original character, they are able to challenge any other artists on the site to a comic battle. Upon completion, a community of artists gives helpful critiques and advice on how to improve each artist’s craft even further. With hundreds of unique characters and thousands of artists, EnterVOID is a haven for those seeking to improve their comic creation skills.

Alumni of EnterVOID feature the talented Sheldon ("Supertron") Vella, Kenneth ("Madame Mirage") Rocafort, Eisner-nominated James ("Wonton Soup") Stokoe, and many others with published works.

EnterVOID.com features thousands of comics from a globally diverse set of artists, covering nearly every genre of storytelling and artistic style. We recently re-launched with a brand-new design and features to bring increased levels of interactivity for comic artists.

I'm supposed to get the Veteran award today. It's the girls' birthday *u* I think the way the awards system works is fine, but I don't think it'll increase activity very much.

Also why did you have to choose such a terrible battle from me ; ;
:iconjongbom:
people need to be awarded more for surviving DETH MATCHES
:iconphillipchanter:
That one is called the "Grim Reaper" award.
:iconangieness:
haha well I was about to leave for work, I just picked a random old one

You are an artist, you are a god in your own mind
:iconbittermause:
Heheheh well it's no secret why you chose the Satin match.
( You damn sly devil you <3. )
I think the awards system gives the community a nice bit of motivation. It's like earning those little velvety badges on a boy/girl scout vest after busting some serious ass in the name of honor and dedication. Except you're doing it for the love of comics.
Sure they don't prevent wars, save kittens from trees, or give you a free/stolen meal from Wendy's, but it's a lot of fun to see what you've earned and all the hard work each represents.

We'd been trying to get an Awards-type system in place for years, but it never quite seemed to work as well as we wanted.

At the root, though, was always the intent to give artists more credit for their achievements with visible icons and hopefully to get people working harder to earn some for themselves.
